Multi Internet Device Family

Connect all the internet capable devices in your home & have them remotely managed by Lynxx.

Our lives are quite connected in our homes now, thanks to WiFi, and the explosion of tablets, more advanced mobile phones, computers and televisions. All of this technology in one space can get overwhelming, especially when you have questions or irregular signals that seem to drop out at exactly the wrong times.

The technology environment in your home is unique, and we are here to make your experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible. That means with our Xxtreme Velocity Managed Home Wi-Fi Service, you will have reliable shared internet access with remote tech support. It’s almost like you have an electronic IT (information technology) partner working for your home for only $9.95 per month.

It’s simple and incredibly useful. The system can remotely assist in something like resetting a password, or determining why your connection has low strength and quality. And there’s so much more, like Internet speed checks that can measure if the connected devices in your home and the speed you are currently using match.

Initial connections of your Managed Home Wi-Fi Service by Lynxx’s technicians will mean you know that your technology is connected correctly. We follow through with maintenance of inside wiring (cabling, jacks, ethernet cables) and the Gigacenter’s router. That means you aren’t left trying to understand intricate technical systems that you rely on, but can feel confident that you have a partner who you can trust to keep things running smoothly. The best part is, every new device you add in the future can get the remote assistance you need to keep your connected life humming.

Are You Aware of Ransomware?

Locky & Jigsaw Aren’t Pokémon Characters, They Are Personal Computer Viruses You Should Know About

A Brief Overview of  Viruses

Viruses in humans make you sick, and that’s the same idea for computer viruses. They have the potential to spread, may corrupt or delete data or even erase everything on your hard disk. Not pleasant. They are sneaky, too. Many viruses are disguised in images, messages, videos and downloads. Even seemingly harmless and silly downloads may have a virus infection embedded in them that spreads.

Protection Against Viruses

There are a few things you can do for protection. Stay current with regular updates and use antivirus tools. It’s also important to regularly change your passwords and never friend someone on social media who you don’t know or who doesn’t know someone you are acquainted with. If a virus or infection gets to your computer, it’s important that it gets removed. Further, don’t open spam emails or emails from unrecognized senders, or those messages that claim to be a company, but the link doesn’t match the name of the store. Lastly, backup your system regularly as a personal safeguard.

What is Ransomware?

Ransomware is computer malware  that installs covertly on your computer, executes a virus attack that adversely affects it, and demands a ransom payment to restore it. Simple ransomware may lock the system in a way which is not difficult for a knowledgeable person to reverse, and display a message requesting payment to unlock it. More advanced malware encrypts the victim’s files, making them inaccessible, and demands a ransom payment to decrypt them.

The ransomware may also encrypt the computer’s Master File Table (MFT) or the entire hard drive so you know longer can use your computer. Ransomware is considered a denial-of-access attack that prevents computer users from accessing files since you can not decrypt the files without the decryption key. Ransomware attacks are typically carried out using a Trojan that has a payload disguised as a legitimate file. See “What Are Computer Viruses” for more info about the different kinds of Trojan disguises visit: www.GetLynxx/TechTips.

What Is Locky?

Locky is a virus that is particularly bold and malicious. Locky is primarily spread via an infected Word document.

When the infected document is opened, a dropper renames itself svchost.exe through the %temp% folder.

Once this is complete, the Ransomware is launched and begins to delete locally stored copies of the operating system, and then moves on to attaching a .locky extension.

Next, there is an encryption of the files on the PC.

The last step is frightening, Ransomware will send demands, generally requiring payment in the form of bitcoins to obtain the encryption key. For more information on Ransomware please refer online to: www.GetLynxx/TechTips.

What Is Jigsaw?

The other disturbing PC threat is called Jigsaw. Again, this Ransomware has a similar method of distribution and deployment, and occurs when someone opens an infected attachment. In this new form of Ransomware, it will present the user with a ransom message and ask for a payment. Failure to pay the ransom will result in files being permanently deleted from the system every hour until payment is made. In addition, if the system is rebooted or the infection process is stopped and restarted, it will delete 1,000 files. Processes have been developed to remove this Ransomware without paying, but need to be done by someone very familiar with the process. For more information on this Ransomware and the potential removal process please refer to:
