Use Your Lynxx Internet to Save Money and Use Energy Wisely.

Lynxx Partners With Focus On Energy

Lynxx is committed to doing the very best for our customers and our community. We strive each day to make the lives of the people around us better. Like the saying goes: “We are our choices.”

That dedication to excellence has led us to a partnership with Focus on Energy, a Wisconsin utilities’ statewide energy efficiency and renewable resource program. It is funded by the state’s investor-owned energy utilities and participating municipal and electric cooperative utilities. This wonderful program has provided over $730 million in savings to 330,000 Wisconsin residents and businesses since 2001, by offering financial incentives for spaces that install energy-efficient and/or renewable energy products.

The Lynxx partnership with Focus on Energy means easy savings that you’ll feel good about. You will get FREE or discounted devices that save energy in your home. Saving is simple.

Just add or upgrade Lynxx internet at the speed of at least 10Mbps, and you will receive a $50 bill credit on your Lynxx service AND your choice of:

  1. Phillips The Starter Kit & Embertel Emberstip 8 AV & Powerstip with Bluetooth Sensor (FREE)
  2. Emergen Sensi Wi-Fi programmable Thermostat (FREE)
  3. Nest Learning Thermostat ($120 co-pay)
  4. Ecobee 3 Smart Thermostat ($120 co-pay)

Please Note: This offer is valid to residents who have Lynxx 10Mbps (or faster) internet and are customers of electric or natural gas providers that participate in the Focus on Energy program. Visit to see the full list of participating providers.

In our area these companies participate:

Alliant Energy
New Lisbon Municipal Light & Water
Oakdale Electric Cooperative
WE Energies

Each of the products featured in our partnership with Focus on Energy is engineered to use energy smarter.
For example, your thermostat controls half of your energy bill, and since that one component equals all your appliances and electronics, it makes sense that it’s designed to help you save energy. Plus, some of the thermostats can connect wirelessly to the Internet and deliver information to an app on your smart phone or tablet. The app gives you control over the system, and you can adjust the temperature of your home remotely so you’ll be cleverly and efficiently cozy from the moment you walk in.

Tech Tips

Know The Difference Between Megabit and Megabyte

Internet Speed is measured in Megabits

Internet speed is measured
in megabits (Mbps).

Like having a fast Internet connection, knowledge is powerful.

You know how every subject seems to have special, insider tips and knowledge that make it incredibly useful to have your “go to” expert? We are thinking of the way grandma made sure the butter and eggs were room temperature for baking, or the way your kids or grandkids can quickly and easily work the latest applications on a cell phone for you. Well, we here at Lynxx know a lot about our passions: Internet connectivity and home entertainment, and want to share our knowledge with you so that you’re informed and make the best decisions about your Internet.

Know a Bit about Bytes

We have noticed recently that there are many Internet providers interchanging two different abbreviations that are pretty important to keep separate, since each does a different job. The abbreviations are Mbps and MBps. Notice the only difference is a capital or lowercase letter “b.”

  • Mbps = megabits per second
  • MBps =  megabytes per second

Bits & Bytes Perform Different Jobs

Generally, megabits measure download speeds (data transfer rate) and megabytes measure the amount of memory a file needs (file size or digital storage). Another way to explain it is that megabits are associated with bandwidth, or the time it takes to upload or download a task like loading a web page or streaming a show/clip/movie or sharing a file; megabytes describe memory storage capacity. Essentially, imagine megabits like the measure of the flow rate in the plumbing of a house.

There are 8 Bits in Every Byte

Mb (megabits) should always be a larger number than MB (megabytes) because a megabit is 1/8 as big as a megabyte. In order for you to download a 1 Megabyte (MB) file in one second, you will need a connection that is 8 megabits (Mb). This is important to understand so that you have the best experience for how you plan to use your Internet. See our Internet speed recommendations on the following page.

Don’t Forget to Consider How Many Users are in Your House

One thing some customers don’t always factor in is the number of users in his or her home that are pulling Internet at the same time. Think about this typical evening: someone is watching Netflix, another person is pulling up a recipe online and another family member is streaming music.

Computer storage is measured in Megabytes

An external storage device’s capacity
is measured in megabytes (MBps).

Don’t Forget to Consider How Many Users are in Your House

Each person will require bandwidth to access entertainment and information.
So, when you choose your monthly package, think about how enjoyable the right amount of connectivity, measured in megabits, will make for each person’s experience.

Identify the internet activities that occur simultaneously in your household. Multiply the activity by the number of devices/users engaging in each use. Add all activities to calculate your ideal internet speed.

Speed recommendations are based on providing a good to great internet experience. All internet activities will
work at slower internet speeds. However, you will likely experience slower response times, lags and buffering if your usage requires more Mbps than your plan.
